A real audio treat

I really don't think it needs to be said at this point, but this song is fantastic. It has an excellent dark undertone to it, which I think is key in great techno, and it has many interesting changes and layers throughout. Special kudos to the various drum rhythms you used in different sections, most specifically the breakbeat in the beginning and end - it rocks! It's really the cherry on top in those segments.

Totally awesome stuff, you're now on my favorites and I will be checking out your stuff regularly. Thanks for making this!

If you ever get a free moment, please give my song a listen - thanks!

Abrasive at times, but great melody

I really like this song, particularly the "intense" parts (the first of such being from 1:08 - 1:22) - those are some great notes in there, actually somehow reminds me of the music from the original Contra! The only thing I'm not crazy about it the instrument choice for the background melody... it's a bit too whiny or harsh, and it really came across that way (to me, at least) during the "intense" parts I referenced before. It detracts from the feel and build of that section. Possibly a smoother sound for that track layer? The melodies of the whole song are great, so I think that would help the lead really shine. Just a suggestion.

All in all, it's a great song!

Please give my song a listen if you ever have some free time - thanks!

police-master responds:

I may redo this song, really, since it's all in all an unpolished piece of work. Some elements like the distortion on the percussion kick in when I don't really want them to and some of the tracks came out a lot rougher-sounding than I'd like, not to mention how the filter for the harmonics wasn't as dramatic as I wanted it to be either.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I will be sure to incorporate it into any further development of this piece.

Chaotic... but cool

It's a crazy song, but I really like how the elements work together, especially the FX you bring in at about 0:28. The piano part is perfect - really makes the song. I think this would go well in a game, but only the right type of game. The song is somewhat hectic, so obviously you'd want it in a game that would produce that kind of situation (IMO). I only mention that b/c you said you were making it for your game.
Great stuff!

Please give my song a listen if you ever have some extra time. Thanks!

Hey, thanks for spending the time to listen and review! i appreciate that. [: Your two songs are very good, keep it up!

Kick-a**!

I, being a NIN fan, LOVE this song. It's very dark (which is a good thing), and has a good beat propelling it along. The bass guitar riffs, while being dangerously similar to those of a real NIN song, fit perfectly and add a nice "raw" element.

I did listen to your original Disfunction, which I thought wasn't bad, but you have definitely improved it tremendously with this version. This will be a great song to work out to. Good stuff!

Please give my song a listen if you have some extra time - thanks!

Extar responds:

Yeah I thought mentioning NIN as an influence would help things along :D I was already aware of the bass part in the guitar solo section bearing resemblance to a certain NIN song, but I wasn't aware there were such striking similarities elsewhere. Glad to to see you listened to the original, on this one I was trying something completely different from what I usually do, so it's good to see it paid off. Thanks for the review. :)

This song rocks!

Wow, this song is really great. It's got all the elements I love in good techno... a solid beat, blazing background base and melody, ripping lead sounds, and an overall mystifying/dark tone. It gets a 10 here, a 5 in the voting, and a download!

Great work! If you ever get a chance, please check out my song too!

Anima-Theory responds:

Thanks for the review, I'll check out your music aswell :D

Anima

Much better!

Taking that sound down in pitch really fixed the piercing problem. The bass is heavy, but I think that's one of the strengths in the song actually. I really enjoy when the background melody kicks in, at about 1:23.

Good stuff! Please check out my music if you ever have a chance.

ScottyKnows responds:

Yeah. I really like big bass. Your music is pretty nice.

A good base

I enjoy the groove of this song a lot, and I think the bass line is very catchy. I personally don't care for the high-pitched sound at all, though. It is just too shrill and harsh. Maybe take the sound down an octave? That may fix it, or at least make it less penetrating.

ScottyKnows responds:

Thanks for the advice. I submitted a newer version.
